Chinese Consul General in Auckland Chen Shijie Attends 'Prelude to the Spring Festival Gala – The World Watches the CMG Gala Together' New Zealand Special

On 8 February, Consul General Chen Shijie attended the "Prelude to the Spring Festival Gala - The World Watches the CMG Gala Together" New Zealand Special and delivered remarks. Distinguished guests included Mayor of Auckland Wayne Brown, Chairman of the New Zealand China Friendship Society Sir David Carter KNZM, former President of the Royal Society Te Aparangi Dr Brent Clothier FRSNZ, Chief Executive of Tourism New Zealand René de Monchy, Deputy Director General of CMG Asia-Pacific Headquarters Liao Li. More than 300 distinguished guests from all sectors attended the event. Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and President of China Media Group (CMG), Shen Haixiong delivered a video address.

In his remarks, Consul General Chen noted that as the Spring Festival gains increasing global popularity, the CMG Gala has become not only a cherished "cultural New Year dinner" for overseas Chinese, but also a highly anticipated cultural event enjoyed by the world. The year 2026 marks the beginning of the 15th Five-Year Plan period. The Year of the Horse symbolizes vitality and forging ahead. The Chinese Consulate-General in Auckland stands ready to work with all sectors in the consular district to contribute to the steady and long-term growth of China-New Zealand relations.

Hosted by CMG Asia-Pacific Headquarters, the event featured the CMG Gala promotional video for the Year of the Horse, wonderful cultural performances, and an exhibition of CMG cultural products and intangible cultural heritage items.
