California Supreme Court Issues Decision in County v. LACERA Case

The California Supreme Court has issued its decision in the County v. LACERA case concerning authority over employee classifications and compensation for LACERA staff. The Court held that the County retains final authority over civil service classifications and salary-setting for LACERA employees, while LACERA retains authority to appoint staff necessary to carry out its responsibilities. Under the opinion, the County must give due weight to and collaborate on LACERA's salary and class decisions. The Court also stated that County decisions remain subject to judicial review for abuse of discretion.
