Washington, D.C. - Today, the Senate unanimously approved a resolution from U.S. Senators Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla (both D-Calif.) congratulating the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Bruins women's basketball team, who won their program's first National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) title on April 5.
The resolution honors Head Coach Cori Close, who led the team to a 37-1 record, as well as seniors Lauren Betts, Gabriela Jaquez, Kiki Rice, Angela Dugalic, Gianna Kneepkens, and Charlisse Leger-Walker, who scored every point for the Bruins during the championship game.
"I am thrilled to congratulate the UCLA women's basketball team on their remarkable run this season, capped off by a history-making win," said Senator Schiff. "The dedication and tenacity of these young athletes is an inspiration to all of us. Go Bruins!"
"In a season defined by grit and determination, the Bruins captured their first-ever NCAA championship-a historic win that reflects the very best of Los Angeles as a city of champions. Congratulations to Coach Close, her staff, and the outstanding UCLA women's basketball student-athletes whose dominant performance made this a season UCLA and LA will celebrate for years to come," said Senator Padilla.
The Senate approved the resolution by a unanimous voice vote.
