11-year-old cancer survivor invites community to help Kids Crush Cancer

11-year-old Colorado Springs resident Samantha Thannisch knows firsthand what it means to face cancer. After overcoming her own diagnosis, she is now inviting the Colorado Springs community to come together in support of children currently fighting their own battle with cancer.

Samantha, the daughter of Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) dispatcher Steve Thannisch, will host her annual Kids Crush Cancer fundraiser on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Stonehaven Park. All proceeds will benefit Children's Hospital Colorado in Colorado Springs.

Samantha was diagnosed with cancer at age five. After completing treatment, she began raising money to support other children and families facing pediatric cancer. Last year, neighbors and first responders joined her at Stonehaven Park for an afternoon of activities and fundraising.

CSPD is proud to support Samantha's efforts and invites community members to stop by, meet her and contribute to a cause that is deeply personal to her family.
