Vermont Multi-tiered System of Supports Survey Report 2023-2024

Audience: Superintendents, Principals, MTSS and EST Coordinators
The 2023-2024 Vermont Multi-tiered System of Supports (VTmtss) Survey measures principals' use of systemic and comprehensive approaches within the VTmtss Framework to fulfill requirements stated in statute 16 V.S.A. § 2904. The 2023-2024 VTmtss Survey Report summarizes key findings from data provided by 99% of the Vermont public school principals. There are relevant resources linked within the report, and leadership teams are encouraged to consider this data for improvement planning purposes.

2024 AOE Afterschool and Summer Program Grant Opportunities Overview

The Vermont Agency of Education will be releasing three complementary afterschool and summer program granting options across two funding sources totaling more than 7 million dollars available. The granting options will be released at varying times in the fall of 2024, starting today. The State Act 78 Afterschool Grants have been designed in complimentary alignment with the long standing Federal 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program (21C). The Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21C) Grant Application Release

Audience: All
The Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21C) Grant Application, with an estimated annual available minimum of $650,000, is now open for the purpose of providing comprehensive, high-quality afterschool and summer learning opportunities. Investments are for five years. Virtual applicant trainings for teams will be held on Oct. 16 (Part 1) and Nov. 20 (Part 2), 2024, from 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. E-Letters of Intent are due Nov. 22, 2024. Applications are due Jan. 24, 2025, in the GMS system. A paper copy of the grant application can be viewed on the Afterschool and Summer Programs web page. Vermont Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (VTmtss) Office Hours

Audience: Principals, Superintendents, Administrators, MTSS Coordinators 
Please join the new VTmtss Office Hours series, facilitated by the Agency of Education (AOE) Vermont Multi-tiered System of Supports (VTmtss) Team. The series will focus on VTmtss updates, tools, processes and systems to support the field and will be held every third Thursday from 3-4 p.m. The Sept. 19, 2024, Office Hour will focus on Harassment, Hazing, and Bullying (HHB) and Rule 4500 forms and requirements. Future sessions will: review VTmtss survey data analysis and application to decision-making, EST processes, and more. Please register for VTmtss Office Hours to receive information on how to join.

Behavior Threat Assessment Trainings - Oct. 9 and Nov. 12

Audience:Behavioral Threat Assessment Team Members
School Behavior Threat Assessment & Management (BTAM) Training is a virtual, one-day training course presented by The Vermont School Safety Center, designed to prevent active shooter incidents and other targeted violence in our schools and school districts. This course also teaches participants how to assess threats and other disturbing behavior and take steps to reduce risk and prevent harm. Prior to this training, we strongly encourage schools and school districts to identify potential members of your BTA teams and attend this training as a "team". Act 29 requires that BTA policies and procedures are implemented or updated by SY 2024-2025 for current BTA teams, and that BTATs and annual trainings are implemented or updated by July 1, 2025.

Temporary License Application Reminder

Audience:Superintendents, Heads of Independent Schools, Curriculum Directors, Principals, Human Resources
Please review a new Educator Licensure Reminder regarding Temporary Licenses (provisional, emergency, and apprenticeship licenses). These are issued to an individual on the application of a superintendent, director, head of an approved independent school, or entities receiving state appropriated grants for Statewide Visually Impaired, Statewide Deaf/Hard of Hearing, and Statewide Intensive Needs Special Education. They are issued when the local district or approved independent school is unable to find an appropriately licensed and/or endorsed applicant after making all reasonable efforts to do so, or when a licensed or endorsed applicant does not possess the qualifications necessary for a specific assignment.

Governor's Annual School Safety Conference - Sept. 30, 2024

Audience: Education Professionals, Emergency Management Partners
Vermont's Agency of Education, Department of Public Safety, and the Vermont School Safety Center are pleased to announce that the Governor's Annual School Safety Conference will be held on Sept. 30, 2024. This all-day, in-person event will be held at the DoubleTree in Burlington, VT. The conference will include keynotes and breakout sessions presented by several of the country's foremost school safety experts and advocates, including Michele Gay, co-founder of Safe and Sound Schools, and Don Hough, Deputy Associate Director of the Cybersecurity Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). Please register by Friday, Sept. 20, 2024.
