A total of 200 meetings held during 2024, as part of the EU-Switzerland negotiations conducted by the European Commission, reached a successful outcome. The EU and Switzerland will strengthen their cooperation in many fields, including energy. Last December, the European Commission and the Swiss government announced the conclusion of negotiations on a broad package of agreements to "bring bilateral relations to a new level."
The agreements include the association of Switzerland to programmes like Horizon Europe, Euratom Research and Training, and Fusion for Energy (F4E). As of 2026, Switzerland will become again a full member of F4E, taking part in the governance and allowing Swiss companies and research centres to participate in projects like ITER, the biggest fusion experiment in the world, or the Broader Approach.
