Nargiza Numanova, head of the Secretary-General's Office shared that the ABU Secretariat is actively working on expanding the group's membership to ensure broader regional representation and deeper engagement. It was emphasized that membership remains open, and the group looks forward to welcoming more participants throughout the remainder of 2025.
A significant highlight of the meeting was the Task Group officially adopted a new logo, now featured on agendas and official communications. This provides the group with a fresh and unified identity. Discussions focused on challenges related to recent funding changes affecting key programs. Members were encouraged to explore new funding opportunities, including ongoing UNESCO-supported initiatives.
Planning continues for the Broadcasting for All Forum, which will be held alongside the ABU General Assembly in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, in September 2025. This year's theme, "The Role of Broadcasters in Safeguarding Cultural and National Heritage," will highlight the importance of inclusive media in preserving cultural identity, with a special focus on indigenous communities.
In accordance with ABU governance, a new chair will be elected from full members at the upcoming General Assembly in Mongolia. Chrissie Tucker will continue to contribute as a consultant on major projects, including those supported by UNESCO and new partners.
Members also provided updates on their diversity and inclusion initiatives at MBC (Sri Lanka), NHK (Japan), and SBS (Australia), reaffirming their commitment to advancing these values within the broadcasting community.
