LPD Shares Update on Nuisance Vehicle Ordinance | 2025

Published on May 14, 2025

The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) has had nine vehicles towed since the Nuisance Vehicle Ordinance went into effect on April 15. The Lincoln City Council unanimously approved the ordinance on March 31.

Examples of those deemed nuisance vehicles and impounded include:

  • 2021 Ford Mustang driven by 21-year-old Eagle man (son of registered owner) racing on McCormick Drive; driver cited for exhibition of speed
  • 2023 Jeep Renegade driven by 32-year-old Lincoln man (son of registered owner) speeding on 'O' Street, refused to pull over when officer initiated traffic stop; vehicle located at suspect's residence and towed
  • 1997 Ford F-150 driven by 20-year-old Milford man observed revving engine, squealing tires and driving recklessly on 'O' Street; driver pulled over and cited for DUI and willful reckless driving
  • 2014 Chevy Malibu driven by 20-year-old Lincoln man reported in two road rage incidents; driver arrested for assault, disturbing the peace, reckless driving and other charges, also issued citation for disorderly vehicle

This new law allows LPD to impound vehicles involved in street racing and reckless driving. Vehicles will be towed but can be immediately released after the first violation, along with receiving a written notice. Vehicles will be impounded for 10 days on the second or subsequent violations.

"This meaningful change will help protect our community and prevent future tragedies. Together, we can make Lincoln roads safer for everyone," said Lincoln Police Chief Michon Morrow.

LPD has responded to six deaths on 'O' Street in the last five years, along with more than 700 nighttime crashes and more than 800 injury crashes.
