Warmer Temperatures May Shorten the Ice Loop Season; Skaters Encouraged to Visit this Weekend

Forecasted temperatures in the 60s this weekend may impact operations at the Ice Loop located in the Central Plaza at City Square Park (1001 7th Avenue, Marion) and could shorten the season by two weeks.
While the Ice Loop is a refrigerated facility and not entirely dependent on outdoor temperatures, sustained warm weather can affect ice quality and safety.
City staff will monitor temperatures and ice conditions throughout the weekend and make operational decisions accordingly.
"We've welcomed thousands of skaters to the Ice Loop since opening in early December," said Marion Parks and Recreation Director Seth Staashelm. "Crews are doing everything possible to maintain ice quality and extend operations as long as conditions allow."
Residents who have been waiting to skate are encouraged to take advantage of what could be the final opportunity of the season.
A determination regarding the season's end will be made after weather conditions stabilize.
To find the most recent updates regarding the Ice Loop, call the weather hotline at (319) 200-1274 or visit the Marion Parks and Recreation Facebook Page.
