Watson Coleman Votes Against Empty Promises in Support Act

Today, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) voted against the Support Act. Rep. Watson Coleman issued the following statement regarding her vote:

"For my entire tenure as a Member of Congress, I have been an advocate for taking a holistic, health-based approach to substance abuse disorder; one that focuses on healing and not criminal justice, and that puts the resources necessary into recovery. The Support Act will accomplish none of this. It is a mirage - a hollow messaging bill meant to soften the hard edges of the House Republican cuts to the programs designed to help people struggling with addiction.

"This bill authorizes funding for programs that Republicans are planning to eliminate in their budget and that Donald Trump has already gutted through the firing of employees. It's a level of cynical hypocrisy that I won't dignify with my vote. If republicans want to stop playing games, put aside the extremists in their party, and get serious about addressing addiction, I'm ready and willing to work with them."
