Whip Clark Statement on the Virginia Supreme Court Decision

MALDEN, MA - Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (MA-5) issued the following statement after the Supreme Court of Virginia struck down the state's new, voter-approved Congressional map:

"Last month, the citizens of Virginia approved a new Congressional map to ensure our elections are free and fair. Today, the Virginia Supreme Court struck down the will of the people by unilaterally overturning an entire election.

"Voter suppression is the core of the Republican strategy to keep power by whatever means necessary - all so they can continue to line their own pockets while driving up costs for everyone else. Even as they disenfranchise Virginians, they are also attempting to racially gerrymander across the South after Trump's judges gutted the Voting Rights Act. MAGA extremists believe they can steal the midterm elections by robbing the American people of their vote, but they are sorely mistaken.

"Our fight is not over. We are using every tool at our disposal to reverse this decision and stop the GOP's efforts to rig the system in favor of the billionaire class. House Democrats are going to win back the House in November and deliver an agenda that working families deserve: to lower costs, protect health care, and fight corruption."
