nexfibre’s network reaches two million premises passed

nexfibre, the next generation fibre network operator, has today announced it has reached a total of two million premises passed and ready for service.

This significant milestone demonstrates the immense progress nexfibre continues to make towards its goal of delivering full-fibre network connectivity to previously underserved suburban and semi-rural premises, driving long-term competition in the fibre access market, on a national scale.

nexfibre has reached two million premises faster than any other operator, achieving it in just two years, through its build partnership with Virgin Media O2. The business has delivered its network to more premises than any other fibre provider in 2024, except for the incumbent, which makes it the UK's second largest alternative network provider.

This rapid progress is underpinned by a focus on high build density, rigorous quality control and auditing processes, and the deployment of XGS-PON technology. nexfibre is currently the only fibre provider of significant scale that exclusively uses 10gbps XGS-PON.

Rajiv Datta, Chief Executive Officer of nexfibre, said: "Reaching two million premises is testament to the dedication of our team and the support of our partners and investors. It reflects our commitment to building a network that prioritises underserved communities and creates a real and lasting impact - most of all by driving economic growth and improving living standards across the UK.

"This is an outstanding achievement in just two years of operation - making nexfibre the UK's second largest alternative network. However, our work is far from done. Our mission is to be part of a network platform that drives sustainable, nationwide competition, provides a genuine alternative to Openreach, and transforms access to broadband across the country."

nexfibre is a wholesale-only provider, which enables it to focus entirely on building and maintaining a high-quality, technologically advanced, full-fibre infrastructure platform for all ISPs and businesses to meet their needs today and in the future.

Today Virgin Media O2 provides broadband services reaching speeds of up to 2Gbps across the nexfibre network. The combination of nexfibre's fibre network and Virgin Media O2's upgraded network footprint will create the UK's first national-scale challenger to Openreach, boosting choice and competition in the market.

Full-fibre infrastructure is the backbone of the UK's digital ambitions, driving growth and innovation across every sector- and in turn an important enabler of the Labour government's central mission to deliver a stronger, more inclusive economy.
