Prime Minister Andrey Gurov discusses measures against fuel price increases with his Croatian counterpart

Prime Minister Andrey Gurov and his Croatian counterpart Andrej Plenković discussed measures against fuel price increases in view of the situation in Iran and traffic difficulties via the Strait of Hormuz. They met on the sidelines of the Nuclear Energy Summit.

As regards energy policy, the Summit noted the importance of the diversification of the sources and routes of natural gas supplies. Most recently, the two countries signed, together with other countries, a Joint Statement on Enhancing Security of Natural Gas Supply to Central and Eastern Europe and thus recognized the strategic importance of long-term cooperation in the energy sector.

Andrey Gurov and Andrej Plenković discussed also threats to Europe's security and the need to strengthen the capacity of the defense industries. Prime Minister Andrey Gurov stressed the excellent Bulgaria-Croatia bilateral relations that will deepen as a Memorandum of Cooperation in the Field of Defense is signed. Against the backdrop of the complicated international situation this will open up new opportunities for joint initiatives in areas such as critical infrastructure protection, rapid mobility and cyber resilience.

Bulgaria's Prime Minister also pointed out that in the past two years the national defense spending reached 2% of the GDP and that this trend should continue. The National Plan that Bulgaria has drafted is to increase defense spending to 5% by 2035 and is about to be approved.

Bulgaria seeks to speed up digital transformation in all sectors and unleash the potential of emerging technologies, Prime Minister Andrey Gurov noted further in the course of his discussion with Prime Minister Andrej Plenković. The two prime ministers discussed opportunities to promote bilateral cooperation in areas such as digital transformation, green technologies and Artificial Intelligence.
