TAMPA, FL. (September 15, 2025) - - In the early hours of Saturday, September 13, 2025, a collaborative effort between the Tampa Police Department and the Florida Highway Patrol successfully brought a dangerous situation to a swift and safe conclusion, stopping a wrong-way driver on Interstate 4. The driver, 24-year-old Kristian Beall (WF, 4/12/2001), was arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and additional offenses.
"I am incredibly proud of the quick and decisive action taken by our officers and our partners at the Florida Highway Patrol," said Chief Lee Bercaw. "Their seamless collaboration and dedication to public safety allowed them to stop this individual before there were serious, if not fatal, injuries. This is a perfect example of how our partnerships are vital in keeping our community safe."
Just before 2:30 AM, Tampa Police received a report of a vehicle driving the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of I-4. Officers quickly located a silver Toyota Camry traveling westbound in the inside eastbound lane at approximately 60 MPH.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver, later identified as Beall, refused to pull over and continued to flee, narrowly missing a collision with a marked police car. Realizing the immediate danger to the public, Tampa Police Officers and Florida Highway Patrol Troopers worked together to stop the car.
An FHP Trooper attempted a tactical maneuver to stop Beall's vehicle, but it continued to flee. Recognizing that the driver's actions showed a complete disregard for the safety of others, Tampa Police then performed a successful Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to safely stop the vehicle. The Camry was then boxed in by both Tampa Police and FHP vehicles.
After failing a field sobriety test, Beall was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI). Her breath alcohol content (BrAC) was measured at .199 and .202, both more than double the legal limit of 0.08.
"There is absolutely no excuse for driving under the influence," added Chief Bercaw. "There are many safe and affordable alternatives available, including ride-sharing services, taxis, and designating a sober driver. If you choose to have adult beverages, make the right choice to protect yourself and everyone else on the road."
Beall was charged with Driving Under the Influence (BAC over 0.15); Aggravated Fleeing to Elude; and Fleeing to Elude at High Speed. She was transported to Orient Road Jail.
