Washington, D.C.-The Working Families Tax Cuts law driven by U.S. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) enacted strong safeguards in Medicaid to fight fraud and protect taxpayer money. Thanks to commonsense reforms like new work requirements for able-bodied adults, stronger verification procedures and restrictions on non-citizen enrollment, the program is on a more fiscally sustainable path, so more support is available to those who really need it.
"Wasteful and fraudulent spending is unfair to taxpayers, prevents those in need from receiving assistance and threatens the long-term stability of federal health care programs," said Crapo. "These critical reforms to root out waste, fraud and abuse will strengthen the Medicaid program and improve affordability and fairness across our health care system."
Key reforms:
What they are saying:
"Between 2015 and 2021, annual ACA enrollment averaged 11.9 million and peaked at 12.7 million. During the last administration, it skyrocketed to 24 million a year-DOUBLING with little to no oversight. It's up to this administration to save the ACA from the waste, fraud, and abuse that plagues it. Thankfully, the Working Families Tax Cut law gave us new tools to fight fraud, and they're already delivering results." - Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz
"Work requirements have 81 percent support from the public, will save taxpayers $260 billion and increase labor participation. Further, not only do able-bodied, unemployed adults create a superfluous strain on the Medicaid system, putting its ability to provide for those who need it (and its very existence) in jeopardy, but it also diverts care itself away from the most vulnerable." - Isabelle Morales, Americans for Tax Reform
