Mohamed Irhabi named October First-Gen Student of the Month

Lamar University has named Mohamed Irhabi, junior biology (pre-med) student, as it's First-Generation Student of the Month for October.

Irhabi, the first in his family to attend college, said the experience has taught him the value of persistence and gratitude.

"As the first in my family to attend college, I've learned to navigate uncertainty with persistence and a deep appreciation for every opportunity education provides," Irhabi said. "I'm proud to be an example for other students; to show that with hard work and community support, higher education can open doors we didn't know were possible."

Irhabi serves as president of the Mixed Martial Arts Club, vice president of the Muslim Student Association and the Helping Hands Club, and officer in the American Medical Student Association, and a Lamar University Ambassador. A Beck Fellow, he has conducted research at Weill Cornell Medicine in Qatar, focusing on neurology and ophthalmology.

The First-Gen Student of the Month program highlights students who exemplify leadership, academic excellence, and resilience as the first in their families to pursue higher education.
