Oral answer by Ministry of National Development on condensation and mould from air-conditioning use in HDB flats

Question No: 1032
Question by: Ms Jessica Tan Soon Neo

To ask the Minister for National Development (a) in 2025, how many cases did HDB receive regarding condensation and mould on walls or ceilings arising from neighbours' continuous air conditioning use; and (b) whether HDB will consider requiring flat owners to undertake wall or ceiling enhancements as part of preventive maintenance obligations.

Answer:

In 2025, HDB received a total of about 240 cases of feedback regarding condensation and mould on walls or ceilings arising from neighbours' use of air-conditioners.

Upon receiving such feedback, HDB will conduct inspections to determine the cause of the condensation and mould, and provide appropriate advice to the flat owners and neighbours, including how they are using their air-conditioners. We also recommend flat owners to keep rooms well-ventilated to minimise mould growth, and consider the use of mould-resistant paint as a preventive measure.
