Join the Day of Service at Lake Park

The City of Reno in collaboration with One Truckee River, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB), and Friends of Lake Park invite the public to a Day of Service at Lake Park on Saturday, October 25th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 .pm., located at 40 Coleman Drive, Reno.

This community-focused event provides family-friendly activities and will bring volunteers together to plant trees, spread mulch, and enhance the River-Friendly Living Demonstration Garden. The first volunteer shift available starts at 9 a.m. for mulching the Demonstration Garden and a second shift at 1 p.m. will be for tree planting and new park bench installation.

"When we come together as a community to improve our public spaces, we're not just planting trees, we're planting pride, connection, and long-term care for our neighborhoods and our Lake Park," said Ward 5 Councilmember Devon Reese.

The highlight of the day will be the installation of a beautiful new bench constructed from reclaimed waste wood, salvaged from trees previously removed from Reno's urban forest. This is an inspiring example of sustainable reuse and community creativity.

"The new bench is a symbol of our commitment to sustainability and responsible urban forestry," said Councilmember Naomi Duerr, Urban Forestry Liaison for the City of Reno. "By repurposing wood from our own removed trees, we're closing the loop and turning loss into legacy, and waste into beauty."

All tools and materials will be provided, just bring your enthusiasm and a pair of sturdy shoes. Volunteers of all ages and experience levels are encouraged to sign up at ktmb.org/events.
