San Antonio - October 6, 2025 - The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) is proud to announce that students participating in the Communication Arts Department UIWtv program garnered an impressive 14 Lone Star EMMY Student Production Awards nominations. That number by far exceeds every university in the state this year.
"These nominations are part of a trend of continued excellence by the UIWtv students and their faculty advisor," says Dr. Adam Watkins, dean of the UIW School of Media and Design. "They speak to the leadership of Theresa Coronado, and to the non-stop work and hours that these students put in to develop these incredible projects. Few students can claim to have earned Lone Star EMMY Chapter Student Production Awards, and the breadth and depth of these nominations put these young journalists on incredible footing as they launch their careers."
UIWtv students were nominated in categories such as Best Newscast, Best Feature News Report, Best Public Service Announcement, Best Fiction - Short Form and more. The students nominated include Alejandra Ortiz, Emma Galle, Maurilio Cruz, Kase Victoria, McKenna Moczygemba, Amos Davis, Michael Barret, Jasmine Valero, Alexis Gonzales, Katherine Dunngan, Dan Wilson, Matthew Falletich, Joseph Gonzales and Aidan Matthews. In many categories, students received multiple nominations.
By comparison to other programs, The University of Texas at Austin received 7 nominations and the University of North Texas and Sam Houston State University each received 5.
"I'm incredibly proud of our students for earning 14 nominations this year," says Theresa Coronado, senior instructor in the UIW School of Media and Design. "Their hard work, creativity and commitment reflect the very best of what our program strives to nurture. With the launch of our new BFA Film program, I'm excited to continue expanding opportunities for students to grow as artists and storytellers."
According to the Lone Star EMMY organization, these awards are meant to recognize outstanding student achievement in production and to be an incentive for the continued pursuit of excellence by those studying media and journalism. They are also to focus public attention on outstanding cultural, educational, technological, entertainment, news and informational achievements by undergraduate college students.
