Hundreds of students will take part in the BIG Event, the largest, single-day student-run service project at The University of Toledo, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 21.
Over its two-decade-plus history, the BIG Event has served as a campuswide effort to give back to the Toledo community through hands-on volunteer work. The initiative brings together students to support local organizations and strengthen community connections.
More than 500 students representing dozens of student organizations are expected to participate in this year's BIG Event on Saturday.
"The BIG Event is such an impactful event because it brings together hundreds of students from across campus to serve local organizations that are always incredibly appreciative of our help," said Vanessa Heck, a senior scheduled to graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in exercise science who serves as president of the BIG Event. "We're excited to step off campus and work alongside community members to make a positive impact across the city of Toledo."
Participants will begin the day at the Student Recreation Center before heading out to service locations throughout the city. Volunteers will work with organizations including the Junction Coalition, Scottwood Community Garden, Aurora Project Inc., and more than 30 additional sites.
More than 500 students representing dozens of student organizations are expected to participate in this year's event, continuing a longstanding tradition that highlights UToledo's commitment to service and community engagement.
