King-Hinds announces the 2026 Congressional Art Competition

Saipan- Congresswoman Kimberlyn King-Hinds has announced the start of the 2026 Congressional Art Competition for high school students across the Commonwealth.

"This will be the second year I will be hosting the competition, and I am excited to see what our high school students in the Marianas have in store," Congresswoman King-Hinds said. "We had a strong number of submissions last year, and I was impressed by the level of talent. I'm hoping to see even more participation this year."

Each spring, the U.S. House of Representatives invites high school students from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories to participate in the nationwide competition and showcase their artistic talent.

This year's theme is "Our Golden Chapter: 50 Years of the Covenant." The winning submission from the Northern Mariana Islands will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year alongside artwork from students across the country.

The competition is free and open to all high school students in the CNMI. All artwork must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2026. Submissions may be delivered by hand or mailed to any of the congressional district offices on Saipan, Tinian, or Rota, which are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

King-Hinds noted that submitted artwork must be original and two-dimensional. Eligible entries include paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, computer-generated art, and photography. All submissions must also be suitable for public display.

A panel of local judges will select the winning entry based on originality, creativity, artistic merit, and overall presentation.
