The Monmouth Vicinage will celebrate Law Day by hosting events in May and June centered on this year's national theme, "The Rule of Law and the American Dream."
The kickoff will begin Monday, May 4, when the Monmouth Bar Association will present the Abraham Zager Award for Professionalism to attorney John F. DeBartolo. Also on May 4, the Daniel J. O'Hern Mock Trial Award will be presented to this year's winner.
Students from throughout the county have been invited to attend a Law Day symposium highlighting the naturalization process on Wednesday, June 3 at 10 a.m. at the Monmouth County Courthouse.
The symposium will include remarks by Assignment Judge Marc C. Lemieux and New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Michael Noriega, along with a presentation on the naturalization process by Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon and other speakers.
Judge Lemieux, along with Lester W. Richens, Monmouth County interim executive superintendent of schools, will speak and present awards to the student winners of the vicinage's Law Day art, essay, and poetry contests on June 3 at 4 p.m. at the Monmouth County Courthouse.
"Rule of Law is the foundation that turns the promise of the American Dream into reality for all. I invite members of our community to join us for Law Day as we reflect on the principles that safeguard our freedoms, ensure equal justice, and strengthen our democracy. Your voice and participation are essential in keeping these ideals alive for future generations," Judge Lemieux said.
The Law Day symposium and the awards ceremony are cosponsored by the Monmouth Bar Association and the New Jersey State Bar Foundation and are made possible with funding from the IOLTA Fund of the state bar foundation.
