Ohio House Passes Bill Designating Captain Joshua Michael McClimans Memorial Highway

COLUMBUS - State Representatives Bill Roemer (R-Richfield) and Jack Daniels (R-New Franklin) announced that legislation to designate the Captain Joshua Michael McClimans Memorial Highway passed through the Ohio House of Representatives unanimously yesterday.

House Bill 259, spearheaded by Roemer and Daniels, names a portion of State Route 241 in Green, Ohio in honor of Captain McClimans, a U.S. army veteran who was killed in active duty while deployed in Afghanistan in 2011.

"Captain McClimans dedicated his life to caring for others, whether on the battlefield or here at home," said Rep. Roemer. "This designation is a small but meaningful way for us to honor his legacy and remind future generations of the ultimate sacrifice he made to our nation."

"When we name a highway, we are telling the world that this life mattered," said Rep. Daniels. "That this sacrifice is not forgotten. That every time someone drives along that stretch of Route 241, they will know that the freedom they enjoy was secured by men and women like Captain McClimans."

Captain McClimans was a registered nurse and played an integral role providing life-saving measures while deployed in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

The legislation previously passed unanimously out of the House Transportation Committee in June following testimony from McClimans' family. The designation aims to honor his service and ensure his legacy lives on in the community he called home.

The bill now moves to the Ohio Senate for consideration.
