Introducing Shuxiang Yang, Forest Carbon Analyst

We're pleased to welcome Shuxiang Yang, RPF, to Finite Carbon, where he'll support forest carbon project development and analytics across North America.

Shuxiang joins Finite Carbon with a strong background in forestry, forest inventory analysis, and growth and yield modeling. He earned both his Bachelor of Science in Forestry and Master of Science from the University of British Columbia, where his graduate research focused on integrating forest hydrology with quantitative forest modeling.

As a Registered Professional Forester in Alberta, Shuxiang has built his career around understanding how forests grow, change, and respond over time. His experience includes working with large-scale forest inventory datasets, enhanced inventory systems, and growth models such as GYPSY, MGM, and FVS. Most recently, he served as a Forest Resource Analyst and Project Manager at the University of Alberta, contributing to applied research and modeling initiatives alongside industry, government, and academic partners.

For Shuxiang, joining Finite Carbon was an opportunity to apply his technical forestry background to one of the most dynamic areas of the profession.

"Carbon is still a relatively new space for many forestry professionals in Canada," he says. "I am excited by the opportunity to apply my background in modeling and inventory data to real-world climate solutions while continuing to work in forestry."

His analytical mindset and intellectual curiosity are a natural fit for the work we do. Whether building new models, improving existing ones, or finding solutions when data is incomplete, Shuxiang enjoys tackling complex challenges and turning information into practical insights.

Outside of work, Shuxiang enjoys hiking, climbing, reading, and playing tennis. He describes himself as a rookie tree feller, an occasional winter truck driver, and someone who is always eager to learn something new. He's also a LEGO enthusiast with an impressive collection. And if the conversation turns to trees, don't be surprised if he makes a strong case for both Douglas-fir and lodgepole pine.

We're excited to have Shuxiang on the team and look forward to the expertise, perspective, and enthusiasm he'll bring to Finite Carbon.
