Motorists are encouraged to use extra caution when traveling, reduce their speed, avoid distractions and allow additional travel time. Drivers should never attempt to cross flooded roadways and should remain alert for standing water, debris and potential road closures.
In addition to practicing safe driving habits, the City encourages residents to take the following steps to prepare for wet weather:
Stay Informed: Monitor weather updates from the National Weather Service and local agencies. Additional storm preparedness information is available at RivCoReady.org/Storms and RCFlood.org.
Secure Outdoor Items: Bring in or secure outdoor furniture, decorations and loose items that could be displaced by strong winds.
Check on Neighbors: Reach out to older adults, individuals with disabilities and others who may need additional assistance before or during the storm.
Have an Emergency Plan: Review your family's emergency plan, including communication methods and designated meeting locations.
Prepare for Potential Power Outages: Charge electronic devices in advance and keep flashlights and extra batteries readily accessible.
The City encourages residents to remain vigilant throughout the weekend, follow instructions from local public safety agencies and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall or flooding.
Drive Smart. Drive Safe. Arrive Safe.
