On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, Big Blue Bus will offer free rides in celebration of Earth Day! Reduce your carbon footprint, save on gas and parking costs, avoid traffic headaches, and support sustainable transportation in your community by giving Big Blue Bus a try!

This year's Earth Day theme, Our Power, Our Planet, aims to promote renewable energy and advocacy for tripling global clean energy production by 2030. Utilizing public transportation is a great way to flex your Power and help heal the Planet by reducing your carbon footprint one trip at a time.

Big Blue Bus proudly shaping regional efforts on sustainable public transportation, with its nationally recognized commitment to reducing its environmental footprint. Big Blue Bus was one of the country's first municipal transit agencies to convert its entire fleet to renewable natural gas (RNG), using non-fracked, methane gas harvested from landfills. Today, with 19 battery electric buses (BEB) in service and 15 more scheduled to arrive this summer, Big Blue Bus is well on its way to reaching its goal of becoming 100% zero-emissions by 2030!

This Earth Day join us in flexing Our Power to heal Our Planet! Here are a few ways to celebrate:

  1. Ride Public Transportation - Reduce your carbon footprint by limiting driving and using public transportation, every mile helps reduce harmful carbon emissions. Use Big Blue Bus's Trip Planner to plan your ride.
  2. Educate and Advocate - Use this carbon savings calculator to learn how many pounds of carbon your daily commute produces. Share it with your family and friends and encourage them to switch to alternative modes of sustainable transportation.
  3. Join the Effort - Attend the city of Santa Monica's Earth Day Celebration at the Main Library. Learn how you can protect our plant with informational booths, presentations, and activities for all ages.
