Bettendorf Public Library Hosts Award-Winning Young Adult Author on Monday, November 16

November 5, 2026 - This author knows the Solution to Everything and is ready to share it with our community!

On Monday, November 16, at 6 p.m., the Bettendorf Public Library will host a free event titled Teen Literacy is the Solution to Everything with acclaimed young adult (YA) author A.S. King. King will share how her experience working with adult literacy learners transformed into a passion for teen literacy, then sign copies of her books. Her latest release, It Came from the Creek, can be preordered from local bookstore Atlas Collective and picked up at the event.

Dubbed "one of the best YA writers working today" by the New York Times Book Review, King is the only two-time winner of the American Library Association's Michael L. Printz Award and has also received the American Library Association's Margaret A. Edwards Award for her lifetime achievement in YA literature.

King started out teaching adults how to read, which fueled her enthusiasm for teen literacy and talking to young people about critical thinking, access to information, and how books can help overcome the effects of traumatic or unsettling experiences. She is now the author of 12 books, which you can borrow from the Bettendorf Public Library.

This free event is perfect for students, parents, and educators and is funded by the Friends of the Bettendorf Public Library. No registration is required. To learn more, visit the library's event webpage.
