In Barrow County, work along the State Route (SR) 316 corridor on Bundle 1 - including SR 316 at Bethlehem Road and Barber Creek Road - continues to progress in several areas of the project. Bridge construction has reached several important milestones.

At the Bethlehem Road bridge, the bridge deck has been completed, and crews will continue working on additional features of the bridge as the structure moves closer to completion. At the Barber Creek Road bridge, crews have completed the concrete sections that connect the bridge to the roadway and have completed the bridge barrier along the sides of the bridge.

Grading activities are underway throughout the corridor. Crews continue to work along the south side of Barber Creek Road within the interchange area, and along the north side of Bethlehem Road. These efforts help shape the roadway and prepare the area for future construction. Drainage work is also continuing along the south side of Barber Creek Road. These improvements are designed to help manage stormwater and safely direct rainwater away from the roadway.

Road construction activities are progressing along Craft Frontage Road, where crews are actively paving. Utility work is also underway near Barber Creek Road and Craft Road. Crews are testing and preparing a newly installed waterline to ensure it is ready for service. Additional work includes waterline and gas line relocations at Bethlehem Road.

Erosion control and maintenance activities continue throughout the corridor. Crews are maintaining silt fencing, construction exits, orange barrier fencing, and temporary mulch to protect nearby waterways and keep work areas orderly and safe. Traffic control measures remain in place to guide drivers safely through the active work zones.

In the coming weeks, grading and roadway foundation work will continue along SR 316, including areas near Bethlehem Road and Barber Creek Road, as crews prepare these sections of roadway and the interchange ramps for future paving.

At the project bridges, crews will continue advancing work around both structures, including completing bridge finishing activities and preparing the surrounding roadway areas as construction progresses. Utility relocations will also remain active near Barber Creek Road as crews continue adjustments to existing communication lines to support ongoing construction. Waterline relocations are also set to begin along the Bethlehem Road corridor.

Earth Month: Environmental Stewardship on SR 316

As construction progresses along SR 316, crews remain focused on protecting the surrounding environment while advancing bridge construction, paving, drainage improvements, and roadway widening. Erosion control measures and stormwater best practices are in place to help safeguard nearby streams, reduce sediment runoff, and protect local habitats throughout the corridor.

Environmental Stewardship on SR 316:

  • Respect Work Zone Boundaries: Barriers, fencing, and marked construction areas help protect nearby waterways and sensitive areas. Staying within designated travel lanes helps prevent damage to these protective measures.

  • Watch for Construction Vehicles: Crews frequently move equipment and materials used for erosion control, drainage improvements, and roadway work. Staying alert and allowing space for construction vehicles helps keep everyone safe.

  • Do Your Part to Keep Roads Clean: Avoid littering along the corridor. Trash and debris can wash into nearby waterways during rain events and impact local habitats.
