over U.S. Route 65 in Springfield
Greene County - Signs indicating a weight limit of 55 tons for combination vehicles (including tractor-trailers) have been installed for the Gasconade Street Bridge over U.S. Route 65 in Springfield, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
The new load posting came about during the department's regular bridge inspection process to analyze load limitations, which have been updated per Federal Highway Administration guidance.
The bridge is rated as fair and was built in 1968. The new weight limit will be in place until the bridge is rehabilitated in 2027.
Previously, a 40-ton weight limit for all vehicles was in place on this bridge. This new weight limit is an increase in allowable loads compared to the previous one. This bridge is in the commercial zone (close to Springfield metro), so it has a higher allowable legal load (70 tons) than the non-commercial zone, which is most of the Southwest District (40 tons).
Approximately 754 vehicles travel across the structure each day.
