On February 26, 2026, the Chinese Embassy in Malta hosted an exchange session themed "Building China and Malta into a Model of International Relations Characterized by Equality." Ambassador Zhang Zuo attended the event and delivered a speech. Faculty members and students from the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies (MEDAC) at the University of Malta were in attendance.
Ambassador Zhang stated that the China-Malta friendship, with treating each other as equals as its solid foundation, standing together through thick and thin as its defining feature, win-win cooperation as its inexhaustible driving force, and people-to-people affinity as its source of vitality, has become a model of relations between countries of different sizes, social systems, and histories and cultures. Looking ahead, the two sides should uphold mutual respect and trust, mutual benefit, mutual assistance, enhanced connectivity, and mutual learning, in order to build a new model of friendly coexistence transcending geographical distances.
Prof. Stephen Calleja, Director of MEDAC, stated that people-to-people and cultural exchanges between Malta and China are deepening day by day, and connectivity is constantly strengthening. He noted that the two sides should join hands to uphold multilateralism.
Ambassador Zhang also answered questions from the students on China's foreign policy, China-Malta relations, global trade, and the Mediterranean region and international hotspot issues. The atmosphere at the event was warm and friendly.
