Broadway in New Mexico series generates more than $47 million in economic impact

Broadway performances at Popejoy Hall are boosting Albuquerque's economy and supporting local businesses across the region. The Popejoy Presents Roybal-Mack & Cordova, P.C. Broadway in New Mexico Series, in partnership with Broadway Across America, has generated more than $47 million in economic activity over the past 24 months. During the current season alone, Broadway presentations at Popejoy Hall are expected to contribute more than $26 million to the local economy.

Popejoy Hall draws audiences from across Albuquerque and throughout New Mexico. Attendees contribute to the local economy through spending on dining, transportation, retail and lodging, extending the impact of performances beyond the theater.

The Broadway League recently released its Economic Impact of Touring Broadway 2023-2024 report, which highlights the broader effects of touring productions. According to the report, Touring Broadway generates direct spending from producers, presenters and venues, while also attracting audiences to nearby businesses. This activity creates a ripple effect as spending circulates through local industries and communities.

Nationwide, Touring Broadway generates more than $1.34 billion annually in economic activity through audience-related spending.

"We love seeing our community come alive around these performances. Audiences gathering, supporting local businesses and sharing in the experience of live theater," said Fabianna Tabeling, director of Popejoy Presents. "Broadway's value extends far beyond the stage. It fuels economic activity, supports jobs and strengthens community connection, all while inspiring audiences and future artists alike."

Popejoy Hall and Broadway Across America highlight the role of Touring Broadway in Albuquerque, where live theater serves as both a cultural cornerstone and an economic driver.
