Mayor Scanlon Reminds Residents to Stay Safe During Extreme Heat This Weekend

Buffalo, NY - With extreme heat forecasted in the coming days, Buffalo Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon and the City of Buffalo are reminding residents to stay safe, stay cool, and check on neighbors, especially seniors and vulnerable populations.

"We want all of our residents to take this heat seriously and take advantage of the resources available," said City of Buffalo Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon. "Our splash pads and pools are open and ready for families to enjoy, and we urge everyone to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and look out for one another-especially our seniors and neighbors without air conditioning."

Residents are also reminded to keep pets safe by ensuring they have access to fresh water, shade, and are not left in parked vehicles under any circumstances.

To help residents beat the heat, the City of Buffalo is extending splash pad hours this weekend. All city splash pads will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

  • Ralph Wilson Park - Foot of Porter Ave.
  • Allison Park - Reese St., adjacent to Asarese-Matters Community Center
  • Lanigan Park - South Park Ave., west of Louisiana St.
  • Lincoln Park - Foot of Quincy St.
  • MLK Park Splash Pad - Best St. & Fillmore Ave.
  • Cazenovia Park - Behind the park casino
  • Houghton Park - Foot of Spahn St.
  • Schiller Park - Sprenger St. side of the park
  • Roosevelt Park - Foot of Roosevelt Ave.

In addition, the following city pools will be open this weekend from 11:00AM-7:00PM:

Saturday, July 12:

  • Riverside Pool
  • Kensington Pool
  • Houghton Pool

Sunday, July 13:

Residents are encouraged to:

  • Pay attention to emergency alerts and weather updates
  • Stay indoors during peak sun hours, when possible
  • Drink plenty of water and avoid strenuous activity
  • Check on neighbors, friends, and family-especially seniors or those without air conditioning
