Albares meets with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Religious Affairs and Haitians Living Abroad of the Republic of Haiti to support the stabilisation of the country

The for Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, receives his Haitian counterpart, Dominique Dupuy, in Madrid

Albares expressed his support for the political and social stabilisation of Haiti and Spain's commitment to the security and prosperity of that country, with which we have excellent relations.

Spain contributes three million euros to the financing of the Multinational Security Support Mission, to which must be added the contribution through the European Union, whose mandate is to help the Haitian National Police to re-establish citizen security in the country and create conditions conducive to the holding of free and transparent elections.

During their meeting, Albares and Dupuy signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Diplomatic Schools of Spain and Haiti that will allow close collaboration to be established and developed through the training of diplomats and the exchange of information, experiences and best practices.

The Spanish Cooperation, which dates back to 1991, will continue to support the Haitian people in the recovery of their economic and social growth, Albares told his Haitian counterpart.

Spain's development aid in Haiti currently has projects underway worth more than 54 million euros, to which must be added more than 5 million euros in humanitarian aid, which shows our country's commitment to Haiti's development and the needs of its population.

Among the most noteworthy actions is the work carried out through the Water and Sanitation Cooperation Fund to bring water to the country's main population centres. Thanks to Spain, more than 10 per cent of Haiti's population has gained access to clean water and sanitation.
