Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė is attending the meeting of the European Political Community in Yerevan (Armenia) on Monday, where she emphasised the need to maintain focus on supporting Ukraine in the face of Russia's aggression and on strengthening cooperation among European countries to enhance security and resilience.
"Everything Europe has built over many years - our prosperity, our achievements and our democratic way of life - remains under threat while Russia's war against Ukraine continues on our continent. We must mobilise all efforts to achieve a sustainable and just peace and to safeguard our own security - not individually, but through the closest possible cooperation," said I. Ruginienė during the plenary session of the summit.
In discussions with European leaders, the Prime Minister also raised the issue of hybrid threats, stressing the importance of increasing collective resilience and energy security. A separate roundtable discussion also addressed strengthening democratic resilience and countering hybrid threats.
As the Prime Minister noted, the partnership with the United States of America is of strategic importance to the continent - a constructive cooperation based on mutual respect and a shared focus on security is in our common interest.
Prime Minister I. Ruginienė also spoke today at a meeting of the Armenia Support Group, co-chaired by Lithuania together with France. The group is intended to help Armenia strengthen its resilience in preparation for the upcoming National Assembly elections.
"The resilience of democracies is not only about strong institutions; it also depends on an active civil society, a vigilant media, and a vibrant network of non-governmental organisations and initiatives. We are ready to share Lithuania's experience further," said Prime Minister I. Ruginienė.
The Prime Minister also took part in the second informal meeting of the European Coalition Against Drugs (ECAD), where measures to combat illicit trafficking, money laundering, and the coordination of international efforts were discussed.
The European Political Community is a forum of European countries for policy coordination, established following Russia's military invasion of Ukraine in 2022. This year, it brings together leaders from more than 40 European countries and EU institutions, marking the eighth meeting.
