Local Joliet Tree to Shine in 2025 City Square Holiday CelebrationPost Date:11/12/2025 4:15 PM Joliet, IL - It's official! The City of Joliet is excited to announce that the 2025 City Square Christmas Tree has been selected, marking the start of the city's annual holiday festivities in Downtown Joliet. This year's tree, a beautiful Norway Spruce, located at 605 Catherine Street, was generously donated by Darra Glavan of Joliet. The tree will be removed, transported, and installed in the new City Square by Homer Tree Service on Friday, November 14, with removal operations expected to begin around 7:00 a.m. and arrive in City Square approximately 10:00 a.m. The city received 22 applications from residents interested in donating a tree for this cherished tradition. Of those, nine were from Joliet and the remainder from neighboring communities. Each application was carefully reviewed and ranked based on the tree's story, condition, and accessibility. Ann Sylvester, Director of Cultural Affairs & Special Events said, "The City of Joliet is thrilled to showcase this stunning tree, donated by a Joliet resident, as the very first holiday tree to shine in the new City Square. Its lighting will mark the start of the holiday season and will stand as a centerpiece for our community to gather, celebrate, and share in the spirit of the season." Once installed, the tree will be decorated and prepared for Joliet's annual Light Up the Holidays Celebration and Parade, presented in partnership with the Joliet City Center Partnership, which will take place on Friday, November 28 from 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. # # # About the City of Joliet The City of Joliet is located in Will and Kendall counties in the State of Illinois, 30 miles (48 km) southwest of Chicago.
