MORRO BAY- Assemblymember Dawn Addis (D-Morro Bay) released the following statement on the California Coastal Commission's public hearing on the Diablo Canyon Power Plant this week:
"As someone who has lived in San Luis Obispo County for more than twenty years, I know how much our community cares about the future of the Diablo Canyon lands. This is a critical moment for PG&E to begin restoring trust with the Central Coast. We need PG&E to move past delays and half-measures, and help fulfill our shared vision of full conservation and meaningful public access.
"These 12,000 acres are among the most stunning and ecologically important on California's coast. The people who built and safely operated Diablo Canyon for decades deserve to see that legacy honored through lasting protection and access for future generations.
"On October 30, I urged the Coastal Commission to require stronger, enforceable measures including conservation easements, full public and tribal access, and a permanent trail endowment. PG&E now has the opportunity to show good faith by working with the Commission to protect the full 12,000 acres and ensure true public benefit. It's time to preserve what makes our coast so extraordinary for generations to come."
The California Coastal Commission will revisit its conversation on the Diablo Canyon Power Plant and the surrounding community lands at its next hearing in December.
Dawn Addis was elected to the California State Assembly in 2022 to represent the coastal 30th Assembly District, which includes San Luis Obispo, Monterey, and Santa Cruz Counties. She is the Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee 1 on Health.
