Emergency: Here's what to know for people losing SNAP benefits

Oct. 23, 2025 - Gov. Glenn Youngkin today declared a state of emergency to provide emergency hunger relief for Virginians in response to the federal shutdown causing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to end starting Nov. 1.

The State of Emergency allows the governor to expend emergency funds and continue benefits.

What You Can Do Now:

· Stretch your current benefits. Focus on essential, nonperishable foods. You can double your SNAP dollars on fresh produce through Virginia Fresh Match.

· Check your EBT balance. Visit www.ConnectEBT.com or use the ConnectEBT mobile app.

o Review your latest store receipt.

o Call 1-866-281-2448.

· Find food assistance near you. Contact the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank (www.hrfoodbank.org | 757-596-7188).

o Call 2-1-1 Virginia or visit www.211Virginia.org for local food pantries and assistance.

o Hampton residents can also contact Healthy Families Hampton at 757-727-1300 for additional family support resources.

· Stay informed. Updates will be posted atwww.hampton.gov/humanservices and on Facebook @HamptonVA.
