WASHINGTON - Today, the U.S. Senate confirmed Judge Embry Kidd to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement regarding Judge Kidd's confirmation:
"Judge Kidd's experience in private practice and public service, in addition to his experience as a magistrate judge, has prepared him to serve with distinction on the federal bench. I congratulate Judge Kidd on becoming the forty-fifth Circuit Court judge confirmed under the Biden-Harris Administration, and the latest example of the Senate Judiciary Committee advancing highly qualified nominees to bring balance to the federal judiciary."
On July 11, 2024, Judge Kidd's nomination advanced out of the Committee in a 11-10 vote. Durbin introduced Judge Kidd at his confirmation hearing in June.
Today's confirmation continues the Committee's work filling judicial vacancies with highly qualified, diverse candidates who help ensure the fair and impartial administration of the American justice system.
Under the leadership of Chair Durbin, the Senate has confirmed 216 judges to lifetime appointments on the federal bench during the Biden-Harris administration. Following Judge Kidd's confirmation, sixteen lifetime judges - including four circuit court nominees and twelve district court nominees - are eligible for a vote on the Senate floor.
