Leave-eligible employees to receive additional paid time off during 2026 Independence Day holiday period

On Monday, June 22, Idaho Gov. Brad Little announced that state employees will receive two additional days of paid leave around the Independence Day holiday in recognition of America250, the nationwide commemoration of 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The state will observe additional paid leave dates on Thursday, July 2, 2026 and Monday, July 6, 2026, in addition to the state-observed Independence Day holiday on Friday, July 3, 2026.

These additional paid leave days apply to the 2026 Independence Day holiday period only and will be observed by leave-eligible Boise State employees. Most university offices and buildings will be closed Thursday, July 2 through Monday, July 6, 2026, with limited essential functions and operations continuing during the closure.

Employees required to work during the closure to maintain essential services or complete business processes should work with their supervisors regarding work expectations and applicable payroll guidance. Additional communications to faculty and students regarding summer classes are forthcoming.

What employees should know

  • Employees should use the holiday pay earning code when reporting leave for July 2 and July 6, 2026. Time reporting in BroncoHub has been updated to reflect the additional paid leave days.
  • Benefit-eligible hourly employees who have already submitted their time cards should use the edit or review your time card job aid to update their leave to holiday pay for July 2 and 6. All updates need to be made and timecards submitted by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7.
  • Supervisors making updates on behalf of their direct reports should follow the edit or review a timecard for another employee job aid.
  • Benefit-eligible, hourly employees required to work on July 2, July 3 or July 6 should complete their time card using the holiday worked time code in BroncoHub.
  • Hourly temporary employees or student employees who are required to work on July 2, 3 or 6 should complete their time card using the hours worked time code in BroncoHub.
  • Benefit-eligible professional staff who have already entered requests for vacation pay on July 2 and/or July 6 should withdraw those requests. If employees or supervisors are unable to successfully withdraw those requests, the Human Resources (HR) payroll team will make updates to properly reflect paid leave on those dates.
  • For adjunct faculty or faculty on summer stipends, this will have no impact on pay or stipends. Summer faculty should refer to subsequent communication from Academic Affairs related to classes and other questions.
