Washington, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Harriet Hageman (R-WY) voted in favor of H.R. 7006, a two-bill appropriations package. With its passage, the House has now completed 8 of the 12 annual spending bills in advance of the January 30 funding deadline. This package provides funding for the Department of the Treasury, the Executive Office of the President, the judicial system, Washington, D.C., and the Department of State, including foreign aid programs.
"House Republican leadership continues to prioritize legitimate governance after the Democrat-led shutdown in 2025 and are doing so with fiscal responsibility unseen in Washington, D.C. in recent years. This bill cuts funding for the State Department and foreign aid by 16%, with much needed reforms to the UN system that works against U.S. national interests. It also rejects spending increases in other titles of the bill. The House was able to negotiate with Senate Democrats and come away with cuts to wasteful foreign aid that does not serve U.S. interests, cuts to UN funding, and prioritization of reforms to the increasingly woke UN system," said Rep. Hageman.
Background:
As of last week, House Republicans passed 6 of the 12 annual appropriations bills to avoid a government shutdown on January 30. H.R. 7006 included two more of those bills, putting the count at 8. The first title, known as Financial Services and General Government, provides $26.5 billion, which is roughly flat from last year's spending. The second, known as the National Security and Department of State title, provides $50 billion, a 16% cut.
Notable wins in this package include:
-
Defunding of woke, weaponized UN agencies, such as the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, which was infiltrated by Hamas and participated in the October 7th attack on Israel
-
Removes longstanding funding directives that will cut funding for the Gender Equality Action Fund, UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, UN Environment Programs, and more
