On 8 May 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, joined the Thai delegation led by H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister, in attending the 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Cebu, the Republic of the Philippines, held under the theme "Navigating Our Future, Together" at the invitation of H.E. Mr. Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr., the President of the Philippines, as the ASEAN Chair for 2026.

Thailand took this opportunity to exchange views with other ASEAN Member States on addressing challenges arising from the situation in the Middle East, particularly in the areas of energy and food security and the safety of ASEAN nationals, while also emphasising the need to enhance ASEAN's collective response mechanisms to strengthen resilience against future crises and to adapt to a rapidly changing global environment.

In this context, Thailand proposed three strategic approaches: Regionalism - by promoting ASEAN integration and aligning national and regional interests; Resilience - by strengthening immunity against emerging external threats; and Relevance - by maintaining ASEAN's leading role at both the regional and global levels while delivering tangible benefits to the people of ASEAN.
