Surprise Mixtape of Protest Music Features Joan Baez, Memphis Mariachi, Billy Swan & Songs That Stand Up For The Communities & Causes She Believes In
NASHVILLE, TN - July 3, 2026 : Today, Margo Price releases Days Of Unrest : a mixtape collecting the songs that have soundtracked a life and career spent standing up for the communities and causes she outspokenly and uncompromisingly believes in, regardless of the consequences. Tracing a lineage of protest music through some of its most powerful voices, the surprise drop comprises nine tracks that embody the issues Price has championed both on and off the stage, from prison reform and marijuana legalization to the rights of farmers and immigrants, and the struggles of working people around the world. A portion of the D2C proceeds from Days Of Unrest's vinyl edition will be donated to the Florence Immigrant & Refugee Rights Project(FIRRP).
Listen to Days Of Unrest via Loma Vista Recordings, and watch the videos for "Deportee" (feat. Joan Baez & Memphis Mariachi) and "Oval Room"
Produced by GRAMMY®-winning close collaborator Matt Ross-Spang (who helmed Price's prior albums Midwest Farmer's Daughter, All American Made, Hard Headed Woman), and recorded across studios in Nashville, Memphis and San Francisco, Days Of Unrest honors generations of artists and influences who have similarly used the emotional and lyrical power of song to advocate for human dignity and independence. Following a standout performance at last year's Newport Folk Festival, preceded by a rallying exclamation of "F*ck ICE," Margo Price has rerecorded and rearranged her rendition of Woody Guthrie's human rights classic "Deportee (Plane Wreck at Los Gatos)"alongside folk icon Joan Baez and Memphis Mariachi, with a video highlighting the injustices that continue to be committed against migrant workers in this country: WATCH
"I've been singing 'Deportee (Plane Wreck at Los Gatos)' for a couple decades now, so it's only fitting that I would cover it on Days Of Unrest," says Margo Price."I first heard it when I was watching Joan Baez and Bob Dylan sing it on The Rolling Thunder Review. Joan Baez has inspired me beyond words, so to have her voice on this recording feels surreal. I've taken cues from her career both musically and as I've moved into the role of 'cultural worker.'"
Drawing from a rich tradition of resistance and solidarity, Days Of Unrest also includes Price's versions of landmark anthems like Bob Dylan's "Maggie's Farm," traditional Spanish-language, farmworking folk song "De Colores" (feat. Memphis Mariachi), Charlie Daniels' "Long Haired Country Girl" (feat. Billy Swan), and Blaze Foley's "Oval Room," a prescient indictment of an out-of-touch presidential administration, which Price connects to the USA's current leadership in the video here: WATCH
"'Oval Room' was written by one of my songwriting heroes from the Austin, Texas music scene, Arkansas native Blaze Foley," adds Margo Price. "He wrote the song about another famous movie star turned politician-President Ronald Reagan-back in 1984, but it feels like it could have been written for any president, especially Trump. The system has always been set up to keep the rich in power and divide the people. Covering this song, as well as the other tracks on Days Of Unrest, is how I protest. I'm showing up at the Capitol too, I'm marching beside my brothers Representative Justin Jones & Representative Pearson, but singing this in my live shows has felt cathartic for me and I think it has for my fans too."
In between choice covers performed as only Price can, Days Of Unrest features Margo Price's original compositions "Can't Stand Still," dating back to her early Nashville days playing with her rock and soul band Buffalo Clover, and the three-part instrumental suite "San Marcos," newly written with her partner Jeremy Ivey and recorded with her band the Price Tags.
A reminder that protest music is not history, but needed right now, Days Of Unrest arrives on the heels of Margo Price's 2025 album Hard Headed Woman, which led to GRAMMY® nominations for Best Traditional Country Album and Best Country Duo/Group Performance, and current nominations for both Artist of The Year and Album of The Year at the upcoming Americana Honors & Awards in September.
As the first female artist to serve on Farm Aid's Board of Directors, Margo Price will perform music from Days Of Unrest at the Farm Aid festival this September, in addition to dozens of festival appearances and headline dates this summer, while exploring the mixtape further on her show, "All American Made," airing on SiriusXM's Tom Petty Radio.
