USDA Designates 24 WV Counties as Natural Disaster Areas due to Drought as 2 Contiguous Counties in Ohio are Eligible

This Secretarial natural disaster designation allows the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) to extend much-needed emergency credit to producers recovering from natural disasters through emergency loans. Emergency loans can be used to meet various recovery needs including the replacement of essential items such as equipment or livestock, reorganization of a farming operation, or to refinance certain debts. The FSA will review the loans based on the extent of losses, security available, and repayment ability.

Impacted Area: West Virgina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia

Triggering Disaster: Drought.

Application Deadline: May 26, 2026

Primary Counties Eligible:

  • West Virginia: Barbour, Braxton, Brooke, Hancock, Lewis, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Randolph, Upshur and Webster Counties.

Contiguous Counties Also Eligible:

  • Ohio: Columbiana, and Jefferson Counties.
  • Pennsylvania: Beaver and Washington Counties.
  • Virginia: Bath and Highland Counties.
  • West Virginia: Calhoun, Clay, Doddridge, Fayette, Gilmer, Grant, Greenbrier, Harrison, Kanawha, Ohio, Pendleton, Preston, Taylor and Tucker Counties.
