CITY OF NEW ORLEANS ANNOUNCES PLANS TO ADDRESS ANTICIPATED INCLEMENT WEATHER

NEW ORLEANS - The City of New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (NOHSEP) today announced that it is closely monitoring the anticipated inclement weather, expected to begin the evening of Monday, Jan. 20 and extend into Wednesday, Jan. 22. Freezing temperatures and precipitation is expected, potentially causing ice on roadways, particularly on bridges and elevated roadways. NOHSEP has begun its operational preparations by coordinating with public safety agencies and City departments in anticipation of an Emergency Operation Center activation on Monday evening, which will extend through this weather cycle. NOHSEP remains in close contact with our state partners, including the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), who is coordinating the application of brine and salt for roadways, if needed.

The public should remain weather aware, be prepared to protect people, pets, pipes and plants, and look out for icy roadway conditions on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

The City is prepared to activate its freeze plan due to low temperatures and windchill, with warming center(s) open to the public due to the anticipated inclement weather.

As more information becomes available and as the weather forecast continues to develop, NOHSEP will continue to update the public via the NOLA Ready message alert system. To sign up for NOLA Ready text alerts, text NOLAREADY to 77295.
