Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco is expanding its commitment to arts and culture through new collaborations with artists and cultural institutions, creating opportunities for guests to experience the city through the people and organisations shaping its creative life.
The initiative was recently highlighted through a private viewing of Beyond Walls by artist SAYPE, hosted on October 8, 2026. Held in the Hotel's Presidential Suite overlooking Yerba Buena Gardens, the gathering brought together members of San Francisco's cultural community for an opportunity to meet the artist and view his monumental depiction of intertwined hands installed on the lawn below.
For the self-taught French-Swiss artist, the landscape is a canvas for ephemeral works that fade naturally over time. Created using biodegradable paint of his own invention, Beyond Walls has grown from its debut at the foot of the Eiffel Tower in Paris in 2019 to its 23rd chapter in San Francisco. Intended to create the world's largest symbolic human chain, the project spans five continents, with installations in Switzerland, South Africa, Brazil and Japan. San Francisco marks its second chapter in the United States, following Minneapolis.
"San Francisco has always been a beacon of freedom, social movements and new ideas," said SAYPE. "When we work together, we can create something that no one could build alone."
The reception brought together representatives from Yerba Buena Partnership, SFMOMA, the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD), Villa Albertine San Francisco, the Consulate General of Switzerland in San Francisco and the French American Cultural Society.
"Sharing the view from the Presidential Suite with SAYPE gave our guests a chance to experience the work with the artist who created it," said Stéphane Gras, General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco. "We want to build on that connection, working with our neighbours in the arts to introduce guests to San Francisco through the people who shape its cultural life."
The gathering reflects a broader approach to arts and culture that begins with the Hotel's own permanent collection. Displayed throughout public spaces and dining venues, the collection features works by Bay Area and California artists, including Light and Space artist Lita Albuquerque, Robin Mitchell and Rex Yuasa. Guests encounter art throughout their stay, then step directly into the galleries, museums and performance spaces of the surrounding Yerba Buena arts district.
Recognised among San Francisco's Top 10 Hotels in the 2026 Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards, Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco is developing additional collaborations with artists and cultural organisations to bring guests closer to the city's creative community. San Francisco will also host Vogue World in early autumn 2027, adding the international fashion event to the city's cultural calendar.
To support these efforts, the Hotel is developing a dedicated arts and culture section on its website. The platform will introduce guests to the Hotel's collection and the artists behind it, while providing inspiration for further exploration through exhibitions, galleries, performances and public art initiatives such as Big Art Loop. The Hotel's Les Clefs d'Or Concierge can also provide personalised recommendations and access to experiences across the city.
