City of Encinitas to Discuss Future of Cooperative Fire Management Agreement at the June 11 Special City Council Meeting

ENCINITAS, CA - June 3, 2025 - The City of Encinitas will hold a Special City Council Meeting on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, to discuss the future of the Cooperative Fire Management Services Agreement currently in place with the cities of Del Mar and Solana Beach.

Since 2009, the three cities have partnered through a cooperative agreement that consolidated fire leadership and administrative services under the direction of the Encinitas Fire Department. Based on the needs of the partner agencies and their respective communities at the time, the cooperative agreement sought to improve coordination, increase operational efficiency, and reduce administrative overhead while maintaining local control of emergency response services in each community.

In recent years, the needs and expectations of the Encinitas community have evolved, prompting the City to reassess its growing organizational and public safety needs and whether it remains feasible to continue providing fire management services to its cooperative partner cities of Del Mar and Solana Beach.

As the City of Encinitas explores future organizational models to meet its evolving needs, it remains fully committed to upholding the highest standards of emergency service delivery. The City will continue working closely with Del Mar and Solana Beach to support mutual aid, regional training, and interagency collaboration, regardless of any structural changes that may be considered.
