Washington, DC - Today, four of my Republican colleagues joined me and every other Democrat in the House of Representatives in signing Leader Jeffries' discharge petition to force a vote on a three-year extension of the Affordable Care Act subsidies that are set to expire at the end of the month.
I applaud their courage and recognition that extending these subsidies is critical to prevent insurance costs from doubling for the 22 million Americans who receive their health care coverage through the ACA.
The Republican health care plan on the floor this afternoon was hastily assembled and provides little-if any-meaningful relief for most people.
Congress should be providing clarity, stability, and real cost relief, not rushing forward a package that risks increasing premiums, reducing comprehensive coverage, and leaving millions uninsured.
That's why it's critical that Speaker Johnson brings the discharge petition for a vote TODAY.
The American people deserve better. We do not have any time to waste.
