Ambassador of Ukraine presents his credentials to FAO

Today, the Ukrainian Ambassador Ihor Brusylo presents his credentials to the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The EU and its Member States are working very closely with Ambassador Bruyslo and his team to address the serious consequences of Russia's continuing war of aggression against Ukraine on global food security at the UN in Rome. Ukraine's agricultural exports are a vital source of food for countries in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Before the war, Ukraine's food exports fed 400 million people each year. The new series of Russian attacks on ports, grain storage facilities and civilian vessels in the Black Sea - and this at the height of the harvest season- is sending further shockwaves through global food markets and are contributing to a significant additional rise in global food prices.

The European Union stands in unwavering solidarity with Ukraine and its people, supports all efforts to achieve a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in Ukraine and is asking FAO to speedily step up its work to help securing the safe passage of Ukrainian grain and other agricultural products through the Black Sea to feed the hungry in the world.
