Kean Votes for House Bill to End Government Shutdown

(November 12, 2025) WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) issued the following statement after voting for legislation to end the current government shutdown:

"DC Democrats made a foolish decision to shut down our government and inflict tremendous harm on our country. I have never supported a government shutdown in any form, and the same has remained true this time. There is no leverage to gain, there is no policy battle to win - there was only damage done to institutions and public services that millions of Americans rely on.

"Today, I once again voted to keep the federal government open and get back to doing the people's business. Every step of the way, Republicans stood on the principles of good government, fiscal discipline, and common-sense. We fought to ensure that critical services from air traffic control to SNAP benefits were maintained. This shutdown was a reckless political ploy by Democrats that achieved nothing but unnecessary hardship for American families. The American people deserve a government that works for them - not one held hostage by partisan games.

"Now, it's time to move forward and focus on what matters: lowering costs, strengthening our economy, and securing America's future. That is the work the American people sent us here to do, and that is exactly what I will continue to fight for," said Congressman Tom Kean, Jr.

Background: The funding measure includes a continuing resolution to reopen the federal government through January 30, 2026, and provides full-year funding for three annual appropriations bills: Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, and the Legislative Branch. This legislation will provide certainty to our veterans, farmers, and SNAP recipients and allow Congress to continue working on full-year FY2026 appropriation bills for the remaining federal agencies. The measure now heads to the President's desk to be signed into law.
