April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and the Burbank Police Department reminds drivers to stay focused on the road.
In today's smartphone-driven world, we're more connected than ever, but that connection does not belong behind the wheel. Whether it's checking a text, tapping a screen, changing the music, or grabbing a bite, even a moment of distraction can have devastating consequences. Remember: One text or call could wreck it all.
In partnership with the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, drivers are urged to follow a simple message: Eyes Forward. Don't Drive Distracted.
Under California law, drivers are prohibited from holding a phone or electronic communications device while operating a vehicle, including while stopped at a red light. Violations can result in a fine, and a second offense within 36 months adds a point to the driver's record.
Throughout the month of April, the Burbank Police Department will deploy additional officers on patrol, specifically looking to identify and cite drivers who violate the hands-free cell phone law.
Safe driving requires your full, undivided attention. Help keep our roads safe with these habits:
Stay focused. Drive responsibly. Eyes Forward. Don't Drive Distracted.
Funding for enforcement is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
